How does MPS decide how much money each school receives?

Each school in Minneapolis is unique and its funding is, too. At the same time, MPS reviews the same factors for each school to determine what dollars should be allotted to that school. Here's how we determine budget allocations for each school.

  • Principals/Assistant Principals
  • Secretaries
  • Office Assistants (middle and high schools)
  • Differentiation Specialist
  • Classroom Teachers/Prep
  • Health Service Assistants 
  • Counselors (grades 6-12)
  • Security Monitors (middle and high schools)
  • Associate Educators 
  • Social Workers
  1. Projected enrollment numbers and targeted class sizes
     
  2. Number of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch
     
  3. Number and needs of special education students
     
  4. Number and needs of students learning English
     
  5. School-specific programming- magnet, advanced academics, time adjustments, media, Q-comp, International Baccalaureate, etc.
